Katanas are used as a part of Samurai’s Iaido action abilities and you need copies as part of your inventory to use the specific Iaido ability associated with the weapon.
The chance for a katana to break is based on the weapon’s Power (for example Osafune has a 9% chance to break when casting Osafune). You will lose the corresponding weapon in your inventory if it does break (note in PvP this is temporary).
